The lamp base has been rewired. This was one of Jefferson Lamp Company's best lamp bases and used with their top-of-the-line reverse painted lamp shades. It is not a common lamp base. The shade rest was meant to have the lamp shade slip over it so it wasn't necessary to remove the finial. Those shades had brass shade rings to prevent the shade slip hole from getting damaged and that is where the lamp was usually marked Jefferson. The metal foot rims were occasionally marked also. The black paint finish has been touched up since there were worn areas. This is a great lamp base and will fit most reverse painted lamp shades or stained leaded glass shades that have an opening at the top. The lamp base is 23 inches to the top of the finial and 7 inches wide at its widest point.
