Antique Lignum Vitae Wooden Dumbbell Pair Hand Weights Primitive

This is a set of antique hand-turned lignum vitae dumbbells dating to the 19th century most likely. Lignum vitae or ironwood is rare in that it doesn't float because it is such a dense wood and is no longer readily available since it was harvested almost to extinction. The dumbbells do each have a split from age since wood does shrink and crack - especially after almost 200 years. They do have a letter E on each one and have a lovely dark surface. Not common to find these made from this rare wood.
